Highlights From DIG DEEP!

5 Years of Gratitude

In July 2023, we celebrated the farm’s 5-year anniversary! None of this would be made possible without the love and support from all of you. Most importantly, we would not be where we are today without our brother, friend, and co-founder Desmond Baskerville who stopped by to celebrate with us.

Fun with Girl Scout Troop 1368

GBF Owner Chris Lemons and Lelo Jones of Outdoor Fresh Farm posted up for the Big Blueberry Bush Sale.

Winter Gear Drive

In October we gathered for our last DIG DEEP Volunteer Time of the year. Thank you to everyone who donated to our Winter Gear Drive! We were able to supply blankets, hats, jackets and other items to Emmaus House and those in need. Stay warm and we look forward to growing with you in the new year!

DIG DEEP!

Volunteers for February’s DIG DEEP had the opportunity to plant brussels sprouts and seed a native pollinator garden. They also practiced propagating mountain mint and elderberry. All volunteers took home seeds, cuttings, and divisions. It’s always a good time at GBF! Visit our event page to sign up for next month’s DIG DEEP Volunteer Time and come learn and join the fun!

Build a Trellis Out of Bamboo

Farmer Chris teaching volunteers how to be self-sufficient and resourceful by using bamboo and twine to build a trellis. Seal it with linseed oil and you’ll have a sustainable structure that can be used for your climbing plants, and it adds a nice aesthetic to your garden too. It could even be used as a cool piece of artwork!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

On MLK Day, members of Black Too Earth and other volunteers gathered for delicious, healthy and hearty meals prepared by Sam’s Soul To Go using fresh vegetables and herbs from the farm.
